Welcome to GEMAD.NET
Digital Manufacting Research Group
GEMAD – Digital Manufacturing Study Group – is a research and development hub linked to the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES), focusing on the intersection of technology, production engineering, digital games, and operational research.
Our aim is to explore and apply innovative solutions to contemporary challenges in manufacturing, logistics, and decision-making, using:
- Computational simulation and heuristics for decision support;
- Optimisation models and quantitative analysis applied to production and services;
- Digital serious games as educational and laboratory tools for engineering teaching and learning;
- Augmented and immersive reality environments, such as Unreal Engine, for virtual experimentation with production systems.
Areas of Interest
- Applied Operational Research: optimisation, discrete event simulation, heuristic algorithms.
- Educational and Simulation Games: development and evaluation of games for technical and higher education.
- Digital Production Technologies: use of digital twins, 3D modelling, automation, and system integration.
- Production Engineering: analysis of production systems, logistics, planning, and control.
Activities and Projects
GEMAD.NET engages in interdisciplinary projects involving students, faculty, and external partners, such as startups, companies, and other educational institutions. A key strength of the group is the integration of logical-mathematical reasoning and creative thinking in practical, often gamified, experiences.
In addition to academic and scientific activities, the group develops interactive teaching materials, workshops, events, and institutional collaborations.
